1/December/2006 -
Well, as we enter December and finals approach, I find my time somewhat or almost completely lacking. I do though have plans for after finals that heavily involve Ranger's Glory. For one, I will being taking a number of screenshots and having them uploaded each week leading up to Christmas Eve at which time I will make a small release. Secondly, I will begin working on getting said release completed and ready for your pleasure this Christmas. On top of this I will also be getting some of the mission and fiction work for the Prologue completed. Now about what the release will be this year. Well, I won't give it away, but I will tell you that this year's package holds more than just resources for other FC modders.
Okay, that is the future, what is there currently that warrants a news update? Well when this news update is uploaded onto the site, the FAQ, progress page, and staff will be updated along with a couple of screenshots of the new hud. I would also like to mention, that I am currently accepting questions for the RG FAQ - post
your questions here. Oh, and we are still looking for voiceovers actors and actresses, plenty of roles left. Ranger's Glory also needs a new 3d animator, so if you are interested post in the jobs forum on the RG boards or send me an email. Also, don't forget to vote for FC mod of the year.

My fellow Americans, Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you all had a good time with family and friends today. Now, as for progress on Ranger's Glory. Well like Standoff, our project wasn't immune to RLS (real-life syndrome) this year. The characters, though, are nearly finished, and I am making some progress on the main missions. Unforunately, there is still a lot left to do in the fiction, ship, and voiceover departments. On that note, we still need plenty of voice actors, so post a sample at our forums or send me an email with your sample.
Now for the huds I was working on earlier this year, I am progressing rapidly on getting it completed. Although, I do have to say that there are still some changes needed to how the text and images match up on the various resolutions.
Also Eddie B. is holding his 2nd annual Flight Commander Mod Project of the Year contest. So if you are registered at the crius.net forums, then here is the thread to vote: http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=20985
And let me conclude by saying that the more votes for Ranger's Glory, the more motivated I am to create an extra special gift for Christmas this year.
Happy voting.

Well, this past week has seen several added patches to Flight commander that have introduced a number of new scripts that are more specific to cutscenes, which means that the first RG cutscene is near completion. Work still continues with voiceover writing as well, but unforunately there has been a rather small number of people apply.
Come on, don't be shy. If you've got a mic that picks up your voice, you'll probably get a part. Just send a few lines in that you've heard in the games--please include a taunt, a clearance to land, an attack my target, and an enemy destroyed. use wav or mp3 and package them either in zip or rar then email them at phillipogden1@yahoo.com

Hey, we're still looking for voiceover talent, so don't be shy and send us a couple of samples in either .wav or .mp3, perferably in a zip file.
Also the progress page has been updated along with the staff page to note changes in member status including the "honorable discharge" of DarthVik. So bring on the voice talent.

Alright, alright, I know it has been a long while and I must admit that not a considerable amount has been accomplished primarily due to other projects and life in general (such as two college labs this past semester). In any case, we are coming back.
Eddie has released a patch that allows nav point names to show up in the hud along with some extra scripting codes. A new texture artist/3d modeller has joined us: Kilrah from the Wing Commander forums.
Also we are now starting to look for voiceover artists for the first episode/recurring roles. Just post a link to an audio file over in the jobs subforum or email me a sample at phillipogden1@yahoo.com.
Looking forward to the "new blood" and hearing your voices. Good day!

Well, thanks to Eddie B, some errors with the X-mas pack were found. I have fixed the few errors in the pack. There should be no further problems.
1-A couple of the "mesh.bin"s were referencing a file that didn't exist in the folder. It was only a simple oversight on my part when I altered a few file names. Just replace your Ranger folder from the original pack with the corrected one in this patch.
2-The navbuoy texture has a size that Flight Commander does not like, so that has been corrected as well. There was also a less noticable error with the navbuoy ship file where it is listed as having no hitpoints. FC thereby considered it to have dead and therefore would play the wingman death tune in a campiagn as well as make an explosion sound. FYI, the only reason the navbuoy still existed was because it has a component. This was something that got converted over with the original box mesh from UE. Anyway, these issues have been fixed, only replace the original folder of navbuoy with the one included in this patch.
3-There were also a few issues with the shipviewer files and few other ships: the Plunkett and the Dauntless. Also a new shipviewer folder is included and for the shipviewer to work, this folder must be replaced with the one included in this patch.
You can redownload the package from the "downloads" section of the website.
P.S. (from Cyberion) sorry for the delay with the patch. Had troubles with my PC. Besides the patch update I made an update to the website. Staff and FAQ section were updated with the new info.

Hey, hope everybody had a great Christmas. If you haven't already downloaded the Christmas Package, it is in our downloads section. Also, if you have any comments, post them on our forum.
There have been a few things happen over the past several days. For one I made some pretty good progress with Missions one and two of the first episode. The first mission, except for voiceovers and few extra needed scripts, it is completed. The second mission is also not far from being in a similar state.
There is also a new member to the Ranger's Glory development team: Iceman or Iceman16 as he is known on the CIC forums. He will be handling all the Border World news fiction from now on. Raptor is currently having internet difficulties, but he assures that he is working hard on the fiction.
With new years around the bend, there have been a few new years resolutions. Cyberion will be getting back to doing some serious model work for Ranger's Glory, and I myself have made a resolution to get episode one close close to completion before the year's end. Wish me luck!
There are of course still several job openings on the team. If there are any 3d animation artists who want to join, just e-mail me a short sample of your work or post a link in the jobs forum . Also, anybody who is really good at 2d work and especially textures and graphics can just contact me on the forum in the jobs section. We are also looking for people with good mics and decent voiceacting ability to head on over to the voiceover thread for further details. Also, aside from fiction, there are other areas that can always use help, so just post a thread in the jobs forum.
I also took some screenshots of the first mission and emailed them to Cyberion, so as soon as he is finished "revamping" the site, the screenshots should be up. Oh, and don't forget to vote for your favorite FC mod of the year: Only one day left.
Ciao, .

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah my fellow FC modders and WC fans!
Like some WC projects around this time of year, Ranger's Glory is providing a Christmas gift. I know it is basically Dec 26, but my dial-up connection and Yahoo Mail caused me some problems in uploading the package, which I finished late Christmas Eve before 12:00 am. Anyway, this release is basically a culmination of the conversion work I have done this past year. Included in this package is quite a laundry list of items from ship files to comm videos. The acredited notice in the package gives more precise details as to what you will find. One thing, though, that makes this release extra special is the inclusive of the first simulator mission of Ranger's Glory, so enjoy.
So enjoy the package and Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, or whatever holiday you keep at this time of year. You may find the package in the download section of the website.
PS. Don't forget to visit the forums and post what you think about the package.

Flight Commander 1.3 released! It's a great news that eddieb improved his FC engine. The main features introduced in this release is the new scripting system, and some AI improvements.
Scripting opens up a whole new world for new sophisticated mission design:
- Timed missions with multiple waves
- Cargo inspection missions
- Custom in game comm menu for allowing players to make choices during a mission
- Capturing an enemy ship
On the AI side, formation flying is now working. You can even customize the formation positions of each ship. Also, the AI now knows how to do collision avoidance.
Other goodies include:
- Traitor detection
- Cargo containers
- New original simulator music
- A few more ships
Of course, to handle all the new options, the mission editor has been upgraded.
- Can now edit where ships initially face, their initial orientation
- Can edit mission objectives in the gui
- Attach script functions to ships and navpoints within the gui.

Hey guys. We're here and busy. Not much news as the engine is still incomplete. BTW, a couple of weeks ago Eddie released a new version. It has many new features like ship viewer, 3D explosions, and even a simulator. We also have several new members to handle fiction: Akula and Raptor--yes the guy who managed and wrote some of the WC: Holding the Line series.
Ciao
